New Delhi:
The iPhone manufacturer Apple has recently taken a big step and sent about 600 tonnes of iPhones from India and sent it to America. Its purpose was to avoid heavy tariffs imposed by US President Donald Trump. According to Reuters reports, the company has sent about 6 cargo planes so far, in which each one had a capacity of 100 tonnes.
Shipment of 1.5 million iPhones, prevention of price increase
Through these plans, about 1.5 million iPhones were sent to America. Apple took this step because the products coming from China have now been targeted up to 125%. Earlier this tariff was 54%. In comparison, there is only 26% tariff on products imported from India, which is currently placed on hold for 90 days.
India has become a new manufacturing hub instead of China
Apple now wants to depend less on China and hence it has promoted manufacturing in India. Production has been increased especially in the Foxconn factory in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. Now work is also being done on Sunday, which used to be a holiday earlier.
The price of iPhone in America could have increased
If Apple had not taken this step, American users would have to pay $ 2,300 (about 1.91 lakh rupees) for the iPhone 16 Pro Max, while its real price is $ 1,599 (about Rs 1.32 lakh).
Huge lead in shipment going from India to America
In January and February 2025, the value of iPhones sent from FoxConn India to America stood at $ 770 million and $ 643 million. Earlier this value lived between $ 110 million to $ 331 million. Let us know that the Government of India fully supported Apple and made the process of custom and airport clearance easier. This helped the company to send the product fast to America.
