A fierce accident occurred in Santo Domingo, the capital of the Dominican Republic, when the roof of a jet set nightclub suddenly collapsed. At least 66 people died and many others were injured in this accident. At the time of the incident, there was a huge crowd due to live music performance in the nightclub. Relief and rescue operations are going on, in which efforts are being made to save the trapped people.
Juan Manual Mendez, director of the Emergency Operations Center, said that, a storey jet set in Santo Domingo is being searched for possible surviving people in the debris of the set nightclub.
Nelson Cruise’s sister Nelson Cruise, the governor of the north-western province of Montechrist and seven-time Major League baseball, was also among the victims. He called President Luis Abinadar at 12:49 pm and told that he was trapped and the roof has fallen. Cruise later died in the hospital.
Relatives of Merngue singer Ruby Perez, who are performing at the time of falling the roof, said that they had been saved. But later on Tuesday, Mendez said that this is not true. He said that the rescue teams are still looking for pareze. Perez’s manager Enrique Palino, whose shirt was soaked with blood. He told that the concert started some before midnight. After about an hour the roof collapsed, killing the group’s Saxophone player.
It is not yet clear what was the cause of the roof fall, or when the jet set building was last inspected. The club issued a statement saying that it was cooperating with the officials. The statement said that the loss of human life leads us to deep pain and despair.
