Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav told the Lok Sabha on Wednesday that it is mandatory to showcase the prices of food and dishes list to passengers in trains. He said in a written reply to a question in the House, “For the information of the passengers, the list and prices of all the foods have been given on the website of IRCTC (Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation). The consonant list with all the details is made available to the waiter and the passengers are given on demand. ”
The Railway Minister said, “Price list has also been displayed in kitchen vehicles. Apart from this, to make the passengers aware of the menu and fees of catering services in Indian Railways, SMS has been started to be sent to passengers with a link to consonant list and fee.
In response to a question asked about the consonant list (menu card), the rate of food items and the steps taken to improve the quality of cleanliness, cleanliness and food, Vaishnav said that measures have been taken like installing CCTV cameras for better monitoring during preparation and food preparation during preparation of modern ‘base kitchen’ at marked places.
The minister said in response that along with the selection and use of cooking oil, flour, rice, pulses, spices, cheese, dairy products, food safety supervisors have been deployed in ‘Base Kitchen’ for monitoring food safety and hygiene. He said that IRCTC supervisors have also been deployed in trains and ‘QR code’ has been arranged on the packet of food, so that information like kitchen name, packaging date etc. can be displayed.
Vaishnav said that regular cleanliness in base kitchen and kitchen vehicles has been made mandatory from the Food Safety Officers nominated by the Nominated Food Safety Officers of each catering unit. He said that samples of regular foods are being taken as a part of inspection and monitoring mechanisms to ensure good quality of food in trains.
He said, “In the kitchen vehicles and base kitchens, an audit is done from the external agency to check the hygiene and quality of food. Customer satisfaction surveys are also conducted. ”
