Delhi elections: Congress fields Alka Lamba against CM Atishi

Congress has made its women’s wing president Alka Lamba its candidate against Chief Minister Atishi from Kalkaji Assembly seat of Delhi. According to the release issued by the party’s Organization General Secretary KC Venugopal, the Central Election Committee of the Congress approved the name of Alka Lamba from Kalkaji.

Alka Lamba, president of All India Mahila Congress, started her student politics with the National Students Union of India (NSUI) in the 1990s. Later she joined Aam Aadmi Party and became MLA from Chandni Chowk in 2015 on AAP ticket. A few years ago he returned to Congress.

Chief Minister Atishi is currently the MLA from Kalkaji and once again he is contesting as an Aam Aadmi Party candidate. Bharatiya Janata Party has not declared its candidates yet.

Congress has so far announced the names of a total of 48 candidates. It has given ticket to former MP Sandeep Dixit against former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal from New Delhi seat. Similarly, Congress has fielded former Delhi Municipal Corporation mayor Farhad Suri against former Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia on Jangpura seat. Delhi Assembly elections are likely to be held next month.
