Three years after independence, the constitution of the country came into force on 26 January 1950 and India was declared a complete republic. After this, the Government of India started giving the Bravery Award for the bravery of the soldiers of the country- Param Veera Chakra, Mahavir Chakra, Kirti Chakra, Veer Chakra and Shaurya Chakra.
