India-Bangladesh relations have been affected after Sheikh Hasina’s government fell in Bangladesh. During Hasina’s reign, relations between the two countries were strong. But now this relationship is no longer like before. India’s Foreign Minister S Jaishankar has given a strict message to Bangladesh, in which he has said that Dhaka will have to decide how he wants to have a relationship with India.
Some things are absolutely ridiculous: Jaishankar
External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said that Bangladesh should avoid some “ridiculous” claims being made by the leaders of the interim government against India. Jaishankar has also said that if a person in the interim government stands daily and blames India for everything. If you see the report, some of them are absolutely ridiculous.
Jaishankar said that he will have to make up his mind on what kind of relationship they want to have with New Delhi. We have a long history with Bangladesh. We have a very special history with Bangladesh, which goes till 1971.
‘Communal attack a major concern’
External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar has highlighted two main aspects of problems in India’s bilateral relations with Bangladesh. He said that communal attack on minorities is a major concern, which is a very disturbing thing for India. He further said that this problem not only affects India’s thinking, but it is such a thing about which we should speak and what we have done.
Jaishankar said that the second aspect is that they have their own domestic politics – which you can agree or disagree. But eventually we are their neighbors and they have to decide on our attitude towards us.
