India is the third largest startup ecosystem in the world, 1.59 lakh startups created 16.6 lakh jobs.

Startup Day in India 2025: Till January 15, 1.59 lakh startups have been recognized by the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) and with this figure, India is the third largest startup ecosystem in the world. This information was given by the government on Wednesday.

From 2016 to 31 October 2024, the recognized startups have reportedly created more than 16.6 lakh direct jobs and contributed significantly to employment generation.

IT service industry leads with 2.04 lakh jobs

The Ministry of Commerce and Industry said in a statement that the IT services industry leads with 2.04 lakh jobs, followed by the Healthcare and Lifesciences sector which has created 1.47 lakh jobs. At the same time, startups associated with the professional and commercial services sector have created about 94,000 jobs. Have created opportunities.

16 January declared ‘National Startup Day’

On January 16, the Startup India initiative is completing nine years. This scheme was started by the government in 2016. This day has been declared as ‘National Startup Day’ by the government. Major hubs such as Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Mumbai and Delhi-NCR have led this transformation, while smaller cities have increasingly contributed to the country’s entrepreneurial pace.

DPIIT had launched the Bharat Startup Knowledge Access Registry (BHASKAR) platform in September last year. This state-of-the-art initiative aims to centralize and streamline interactions within India’s entrepreneurial ecosystem. This platform is part of the Startup India program.

A large number of participation was also seen in ‘Startup Mahakumbh 2024’. It was attended by over 48,000 people, 1,300 exhibitors and delegates from 14 countries, highlighting India’s growing prominence in shaping the entrepreneurial landscape.

The government said that the fifth edition of Startup Mahakumbh is going to be held in New Delhi on March 7-8, 2025.
