Indian Grandmaster D Gukesh had created history by defeating China’s Ding Liren in the FIDE World Chess Championship held in Singapore in the initial week of last December. Gukesh became the youngest champion in the history of Chess Championship. D Gukesh has met Adani Group Chairman Gautam Adani. During this, Gautam Adani praised the Indian Grandmaster for his brilliant achievement. Let us tell you, Gukesh had taken advantage of Ding’s mistake in the match that lasted 14 games and won the championship by 7.5 – 6.5. Gukesh became the second Indian after Vishwanathan Anand to become world champion in classical.
Adani Group Chairman Gautam Adani tweeted after meeting Gukesh, “It was a great privilege to meet the reigning World Chess Champion D Gukesh and hear his story of victory. Also meeting his parents, Dr. Rajnikanth and Dr. Padmavati.” Equally inspiring were those whose sacrifice laid the foundation for their success.”
Gautam Adani further wrote, “At the age of just 18, Gukesh’s poise and talent are proof that India’s youth is unstoppable. Talented players like him are inspiring a new generation, looking forward to dominating global chess for decades.” This is a confident, resurgent and emerging India.

Gukesh broke the four-decade-old record of chess legend Garry Kasparov, who won the title in 1985 at the age of 22 years, 6 months and 27 days. Gukesh is the second Indian to win the World Chess Championship title. Before him, five-time champion Vishwanathan Anand had achieved this feat. However, in 2013, Vishwanathan Anand lost the title to Norway’s Magnus Carlsen in Chennai. Carlsen left the crown in 2023.
Players like Vaishali Rameshbabu are proving Gautam Adani’s prediction of Indian youth ruling chess true. Vaishali has been awarded the title of Grandmaster by FIDE. Vaishali is the third Indian woman Grandmaster after Koneru Humpy and Harika Dronavalli.
Before Gukesh became the world champion, the Indian chess team had also created history by winning gold medals in both the open and women’s categories in the 45th Chess Olympiad in Hungary. The women’s team had won the first gold medal in this prestigious competition. The year ended with Koneru Humpy winning the Women’s World Rapid Chess Championship after a gap of five years and Vaishali winning the bronze medal at the World Blitz Chess Championship on the last day of the year.
