Israel: Netanyahu, who opposed the Attorney General opposing the removal of the security head, passes the motion of no confidence

Jerusalem:
The Israeli cabinet has approved the no-confidence motion against the country’s Attorney General Gali Baharav-Miyara. This can be considered as the first step taken towards their dismissal. A government official told the media on Sunday that the ministers unanimously voted in favor of the proposal. This step was one of the many actions of the government, which was seen by the critics of the government as political vengeance.

There was a conflict between Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Baharav-Miara over the government’s attempt to remove Shin Bet Security Chief Ronen Bar on Friday. The High Court had temporarily stopped the government’s dismissal attempt, after which Baharav-Miyara issued a directive to stop Netanyahu from removing the bar.

After this decision, thousands of protesters took out a rally against the government’s efforts to remove Baharav-Miyara and Bar in Jerusalem.

Last week, the cabinet approved the dismissal of the bar. The protesters demanded resignation from Prime Minister Netanyahu and traveled towards the government premises. The protesters demanded ending the war, the return of the remaining people held hostage in Gaza and the cancellation of the government’s judicial reform.

Attorney General Gali Baharav-Miyara has the right to decide whether to make allegations against senior officials or not and also decide whether the ongoing corruption case against Netanyahu should be carried forward or not.

Baharav-Miyara did not attend Sunday’s cabinet meeting, but she wrote a letter to the ministers. In the letter, he said, “The government wants to keep itself above the law,” and also said that the Attorney General’s office will continue to fulfill its duties without “no fear”.

Prime Minister Netanyahu also did not attend this meeting. Like an attempt to dismiss Bahrav-Maira, the decision to remove the bar can also be challenged in the High Court. However, it is not clear how much time the dismissal process will take, because this has never happened before.
