A three -member judicial commission constituted by the Uttar Pradesh government to investigate the Mahakumbh stampede reached the spot in Sangam Noz in Prayagraj on Friday. The Inquiry Commission took information from the officials. After this, the members of the Commission questioned the injured admitted to SRN Hospital. The commission headed by retired judge Justice Harsh Kumar of Allahabad High Court includes former Director General of Police VK Gupta and retired IAS officer DK Singh.
An official said that the commission reached the Sangam Noj in the afternoon, where there was a stampede late on Tuesday night. Meladdler Vijay Kiran Anand, DIG Vaibhav Krishna, SSP Rajesh Dwivedi and other officials present with the commission informed the commission members. The Commission visited that area amid heavy security.
Commission asked 4 questions to officials
1- When you knew that such a large number of crowds were going to come, what were the security arrangements?
2- Where did this incident happen other than the Sangam region?
3- What is the reality of the videos that are going viral in the media? Has there been any incident in Jhunsi?
4- CCTV footage of all events show. Give details of planning made for crowd control.
When asked by reporters, a member of the Commission said, “I do not want to comment at the moment. Today we visited the scene and reviewed the situation. ”
Commission Chairman Justice Harsh Kumar said that the Commission has got a month’s time to investigate, but it will investigate rapidly.
According to the police, the incident happened because the crowd broke the barricade and moved forward by crushing the people sitting on the ghat on the other side. 30 people died in this incident, while 60 people were injured.
