Addressing the nation on the eve of the 76th Republic Day, President Draupadi Murmu said that India, one of the oldest civilizations in the world, was considered the origin of knowledge and wisdom. But India had to go through a dark period. On this day, first of all we remember those brave hearts who made the greatest sacrifice to free the motherland from the shackles of foreign rule. This year, we are celebrating the 150th birth anniversary of Lord Birsa Munda. He is among the leading freedom fighters whose role is now being given due importance in the context of national history.
President Draupadi Murmu said that we had achieved independence in the year 1947. But many remnants of the colonial mentality persisted for a long time. In recent times, we are seeing concrete efforts to change that mentality. Among such efforts, the decision to implement Indian Justice Code, Indian Civil Defense Code and Indian Evidence Act in place of Indian Penal Code, Criminal Procedure Code and Indian Evidence Act is most notable.
President Draupadi Murmu said that our connection with our cultural heritage has deepened. The Prayagraj Mahakumbh being organized at this time can be seen as an effective expression of that rich heritage. Many encouraging efforts are being made in the field of culture to preserve our traditions and customs and to infuse new energy into them.

President Draupadi Murmu said that the reflection of India’s democratic values is also visible in the structure of our Constituent Assembly. All parts of the country and all communities were represented in that meeting. What is most noteworthy is that the Constituent Assembly also included 15 extraordinary women like Sarojini Naidu, Princess Amrit Kaur, Sucheta Kripalani, Hansaben Mehta and Malti Chaudhary.
President Draupadi Murmu on Saturday said that India’s growing confidence is also visible in the field of sports in which the country’s athletes have written ‘exciting stories of success’.
Addressing the nation on the eve of the 76th Republic Day, Murmu said that the players have made the country proud with their zeal to win and have inspired the next generation to achieve higher goals.
He said, “Our growing confidence as a nation is also visible in the field of sports in which our players have written interesting stories of success.” Last year our players left their mark in the Olympic Games. We sent our largest contingent ever to the Paralympic Games, which returned with its best performance ever. ,

The President said that the players are being supported through better training facilities at the grassroots level.
India won six medals in the Paris Olympics and then created history by winning 29 medals including seven gold and nine silver in the Paralympics.
On the other hand, chess players are also performing brilliantly and for the first time India won gold medals in both men’s and women’s team events of the Chess Olympiad.
Eighteen year old Gukesh’s performance has been excellent. Apart from becoming the youngest world champion, he also won individual gold in the Olympiad and was also the architect of India’s victory.
