Votes will be cast on April 28 for the next Prime Minister’s election in Canada. The current Prime Minister of Canada, Mark Karney, has called a Snap election amidst the panic in the global market from US President Donald Trump’s tariff policy. That is, they are going to hold elections before the tenure of the current government is over. This time the election is also special because this is the first such general election going to be held inside Canada in a decade in which former Prime Minister Justin Trudeau will not be in the race. There is a tough fight between Canada’s two most prominent party- Conservative and Liberal.
Let us tell you here which parties are in the fray in the Canadian elections and which is the PM candidate from their side. We will get the next PM of Canada.
Liberal Party and its leader Mark Carney
60 -year -old Mark Carney is the current Prime Minister of Canada. But it has been only a few weeks since he sitting in this post. In early March, he was elected leader of the Liberal Party and replaced former PM Justin Trudeau. His grip inside the party is strong, he got an overwhelming majority in the party leader’s election- with more than 85% of the votes. He became Prime Minister soon after Trudeau’s resignation.
Carney’s strong side is that he is an expert of Economics because of his background. He has also taken a rebel stance against US President Donald Trump. Trump’s tariff is vowed to answer with tariffs and said that Canada will never become a 51st American state.
If we talk about weakness, then they do not have much experience of politics. The BBC World has written in one of its reports that his French is also weak. This can be a negative point among the voters that insist on preserving Canada’s French-speaking heritage, especially in the province of Quebec.
Conservative Party and its leader Pierre Polyvre
45 -year -old Pierre Polyvre has an experience of politics unlike Carney. He has been in Canadian politics for almost two decades. For the first time, he was elected to the House of Commons at the age of just 25, making him one of the youngest MPs of that time. Originally the Canadian province comes from Alberta.
Pierre Polyvre’s style is being seen as a negative point for him. Many people believe that the method of his politics is just like US President Donald Trump- I am everything. When the public in Canada is seen in opposition to Trump and America, this trump style of Polyvre can be heavy on them.
Block Cubecois and its leader Yways-French Blanchet
Block Cubechois is a local and Quebec Nationalist Party. It only raises candidates in this French speaking province-Quebec. This means that its leader is unlikely to become the next Prime Minister of Canada. Nevertheless, this party is a major player in Canadian elections. The party’s popularity in Quebec may determine the fate of other major parties who want to form the government. Its leaders have been leading the party since Blanchet 2019. He is known for Trump’s rhetoric to include Canada in America, nonsense, he is known for his clarism.
New Democratic Party and its leader Jagmeet Singh
46 -year -old Jagmeet Singh is the leader of the New Democratic Party. It is a leftist inclination party that has been focusing on labor and labor issues. Jagmeet Singh created history in 2017 when he became the first ethnic minority and Sikh to lead a major political party in Canada. In 2019, he was elected as an MP from British Columbia. However, the party is still weak. His party has to struggle to gather support. The survey shows that by mid -April, only 8.5% Canadian intends to vote for them.
