The Supreme Court has given big relief to BSP supremo Mayawati. The Supreme Court has disposed of the PIL filed against him spending crores of rupees from the government treasury while being the Chief Minister and making statues of elephant as his and his party’s election symbol.
The Supreme Court stopped hearing the petition filed against Mayawati. The hearing was ended considering this petition filed 15 years ago as an old case. Advocate Ravikant had filed this petition in 2009, in which he had demanded that the money should be recovered from the Bahujan Samaj Party for misusing public money. Apart from this, it was also said in the petition that making statues of the party’s election symbol elephant in parks with public money is wrong and the Supreme Court should order the Election Commission to confiscate the election symbol of BSP.
What is the whole matter?
Former CM of Uttar Pradesh Mayawati had constructed two big parks in Lucknow and Noida during her rule from 2007 to 2012. Many statues of Baba Saheb Bhimrao Ambedkar, BSP founder Kanshi Ram, the party’s election symbol elephant and himself were installed in the parks. These statues were made of stone and bronze.
According to the report, crores of rupees were spent in these projects at that time. Mayawati also remained the target of her opponents for this work. A case was also registered against him.
