Rajat Patidar Royal Challengers Bangalore New Captain: Royal Challengers Bangalore has appointed Rajat Patidar as its captain for the upcoming season of IPL starting on March 21. The franchise retained the silver Patidar before the mega auction for IPL 2025. However, the franchise neither retained Fof du Plessis, who led the team last season, nor showed more interest in buying again in the auction. In such a situation, it was believed that the franchise would land with a new captain this time. However, in the meantime there were some media reports, which claimed that Virat Kohli can lead the team in IPL 2025.
Royal Challengers Bangalore announced his new captain’s name at an event in Bangalore. During this time, Team Director Mo Bobat, Head Coach Andy Flower and Patidar were present. Rajat Patidar made his IPL debut in 2021. However, he was associated with RCB franchise in 2022.
Media reports claimed that there was a race between Rajat Patidar, Virat Kohli and Krunal Pandya for the captain of Royal Challengers Bangalore. However, on Thursday morning, it came to know that Virat Kohli is not interested in captaincy, while Krunal is also a pre -contender.
Born in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, Rajat Patidar came to RCB as a replacement of injured Lavanith Sisodia in IPL 2022. The franchise then bought him at his base price at a price of Rs 20 lakh. The Patidars have been with the franchise since then.
Rajat Patidar has played only 27 matches in the IPL so far and he has scored 799 runs at an average of 34.74. During this time his strike rate is 158.85. Patidar is one of the batsmen who have scored a century in the IPL. Patidar has a century and 7 fifties in the IPL.
In IPL 2024, Rajat Patidar scored 395 runs in 15 matches at an average of 30.38 and a strike rate of 177.13. While in 2022, he played only 8 matches.
The players who retained the players for IPL 2025 were also included in the players. The franchise retained this explosive batsman for 11 crores. This will be the first time that the Patidar will lead a team in the IPL. However, he has led Madhya Pradesh in Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and Vijay Hazare Trophy.
Rajat Syed Mushtaq Ali was second in the list of batsmen who scored the most runs in the last season of Trophy. He scored an average of 61.14 in nine innings and 428 runs at a strike rate of 186.08. In the Vijay Hazare Trophy, he scored 226 runs at an average of 56.50 and a strike rate of 107.10.
RCB, which plays all the seasons of the league since 2008, is still waiting for its first title. The franchise is sure to reach the final three times. Bengaluru last played the final in 2016. If we talk about the last five seasons, then the franchise has succeeded in making a place in the playoffs four times.
