New Delhi:
Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Hardeep Singh Puri said on Monday that due to the ethanol mixed petrol (EBP) program, farmers were paid more than one lakh four thousand crore rupees from 2014-15 to January 2025. During this period, foreign currency of more than one lakh 20 thousand crore rupees has also been saved. He said that the oil companies in the public sector have achieved the target of 19.68 percent ethanol mixture. Diesel is not yet a mixture of ethanol. Mixing ethanol in petrol is reduced by saving foreign currency as well as import dependence on crude oil. Puri gave this information in a written reply to a question in the Rajya Sabha on Monday.
How much ethanol was added to petrol in 10 years
Puri said that the ethanol supply year (ESY) was 38 million liters in petrol in 2013-14. This increased to 707 crore liters in 2023-24 as a result of the incentive given by the government. Puri said that during the ongoing ESY 2024-25, the Oil Companies of the unannounced oil companies for February 2025 have achieved the target of 19.68 per cent ethanol mixture. He said that at present, diesel is not mixed with ethanol.
Benefits of adding ethanol in petrol
Puri said that the government is encouraging a mixture of ethanol in petrol under the Ethanol mixed petrol (EBP) program with several purposes. He informed that ethanol supports the government’s efforts to improve the environment in the form of green energy. It saves foreign exchange and reduces import dependence on crude oil. This promotes domestic agriculture.
