Tehwavur Rana, accused of Mumbai attack, will be brought to India, petition to stop extradition in US Supreme Court dismissed

The US Supreme Court has dismissed the petition demanding Tahwwur Rana, accused of the 26/11 Mumbai terror attack, to stop India’s extradition.

166 people were killed in hotels, a railway station and a Jewish center for three days in Mumbai, which started on 26 November 2008. India says that Pakistan-based Islamic group Lashkar-e-Taiba hatched the attacks. The government of Pakistan has denied joining it.

Tahwwur Rana is a Canadian citizen of Pakistani origin, who lived in Chicago. He was convicted in 2011 and was later sentenced to 13 years in jail. He is currently closed at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Los Angeles.

On 27 February, he presented the “Emergency application for adjournment for pending trial of the identity of the Supreme Court of the US and the Circuit Justice of the Ninth Circuit, Elena Kagan.

Earlier last month, the judge rejected the application.

Rana then renewed his emergency application for adjournment until the case was pending for the prison petition addressed to Justice Kagan, and requested that the renewed application be directed to Chief Justice Roberts.

Today, a notice on the Supreme Court website said, “The application was rejected by the court.”
