US President Donald Trump has announced the imposition of a reciprocal tariff from April 2, terming the tariffs imposed by several countries including India and China. He said that the US will impose the same duty on imports from other countries, which they impose on American exports.
India accused of 100% tariff
Addressing the joint session of the Congress, Trump said that India charges 100% tariff on American auto products. He called it an inappropriate trade policy for the US and said that countries like European Union (EU), China, Brazil, India, Mexico and Canada have imposed more charges on the US for decades. Now America will also retaliate.
Announcement of reciperook tariff
He made it clear that from April 2, the US will impose retaliation on those countries which impose more tax on American products. He said, “If they put a non-monetary tariff to keep us out of their market, then we will do the same in their market.”
China and South Korea also targeted
Trump said that China charges double tariffs on American products, while South Korea charges four times more than the US. He said that “We give military assistance to South Korea, yet they impose more tariffs on us. This system is not appropriate for America.”
Impact of tariff policy, investment in America increased
Trump claimed that his tariff policies have increased investment in America. He told that Apple’s CEO Tim Cook called him and said that he would invest $ 500 billion in America. Taiwan Semiconductor, which is the world’s largest semiconductor company, will invest $ 165 billion. At the same time, Softbank has also planned to invest $ 200 billion.
‘Gold card’ will be better than Green Card
Trump said that his government is developing a ‘Gold Card’ of US $ 50 lakh, which will provide American citizenship to talented and hardworking people. He described it as a better option than a green card.
