Snowfall continues in the hilly areas of the country, to see which a large number of tourists are heading towards the high mountains. Chamoli in Uttarakhand has also received heavy snowfall in the past few days. However, Uttarakhand Disaster Management Authority has now issued an orange alert of avalanche. In Chamoli, instructions have been given to take precautions regarding the danger of avalanche in areas at a height of more than three thousand meters. Besides, officials have also been asked to remain alert.

Defense Geoinformatics Research Establishment (DGRE), a laboratory of Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO), on Sunday issued an alert regarding avalanche at an altitude of more than 3,000 meters in Chamoli district of Uttarakhand in the next 24 hours. This alert is for a period of 24 hours till 5 pm on Monday.

Letter written to Chamoli District Magistrate

Mohammad Obaidullah Ansari, Joint Chief Executive Officer, Uttarakhand State Disaster Management Authority, wrote a letter to the Chamoli District Magistrate, drawing his attention to DGRE’s ‘Orange Alert’ (level three) for the area. In a letter sent to the District Magistrate, he said that in view of the alert, appropriate security and precautionary measures should be taken. He said that all concerned officials should remain alert.

Heavy snowfall in Chamoli recently

Taking cognizance of the warning, appropriate action and precautions have been expected in the letter. Besides, other officers have also been asked to be directed to remain on alert mode.

Areas at altitudes above 2,500 meters in Chamoli district have received heavy snowfall in the last few days, while lower areas have received light to moderate rain.
