Vijay Hazare Trophy: Yashasvi Jaiswal’s great record broken, Mumbai’s Ayush Mhatre created history at the age of 17

Ayush Mhatre broke Yashasvi Jaiswal big record: Mumbai’s Ayush Mhatre created a new world record of becoming the youngest player to score more than 150 runs in List A cricket during the Vijay Hazare Trophy match against Nagaland on Tuesday. He left behind the record of compatriot Yashasvi Jaiswal. Mhatre broke the previous record held by Indian opener Jaiswal at the age of 17 years and 168 days. Jaiswal was 17 years and 291 days old when he achieved this feat while playing for Mumbai against Jharkhand in 2019.

Mhatre, who made his debut for domestic giants Mumbai at the beginning of this season, scored 181 runs in just 117 balls with the help of 11 sixes and 15 fours. With this innings, Mumbai scored 403 runs for seven wickets in 50 overs. Mhatre, who hails from Mumbai’s Virar suburb, has performed brilliantly across all formats since joining the team at the beginning of this season.

He was part of the Irani Cup-winning Mumbai team that won the trophy by defeating Rest of India in October after a gap of 27 years. On his debut in Ranji Trophy, Mhatre played a brilliant inning of 52 runs in 71 balls but Mumbai lost the first match of the season against Baroda.

After this, Mhatre played a brilliant inning of 176 runs in 232 balls with the help of 22 fours and four sixes against Maharashtra, due to which Mumbai won the match by nine wickets.

After this, he could not make an impact against Tripura and Odisha but scored his second first-class century with an innings of 116 runs in 149 balls against Army. He then represented the Indian team in the Under-19 Asia Cup.

Mhatre played half-centuries against Japan (54) and UAE (67 not out) but was out cheaply in the final against Bangladesh. He did not play in the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy but made a comeback with a brilliant inning of 78 runs against Karnataka in the 50-over national tournament.
