The Allahabad High Court strongly criticized the District Magistrate of Meerut for not taking necessary steps to compensate the victim of acid attack. The court has directed the District Magistrate (DM) to provide documents including the medical report of the victim and copies of the FIR filed in the case to the Women’s Safety Division under the Ministry of Home Affairs, New Delhi.
The court has also asked the Uttar Pradesh government to issue a circular to all the district magistrates of the state to ensure that there is no such delay in future. Justice Shekhar B. A bench of Saraf and Justice Vipin Chandra Dixit passed this order on a petition filed by Rajanita of Meerut, who moved the court to get additional compensation of one lakh rupees payable to the victims of acid attacks under the PM National Relief Fund. .
The court said, “From looking at the documents, it appears that through a letter from September 3, 2024, the Deputy Secretary of the Union Home Ministry has written a letter to the District Magistrate of Meerut to provide a copy of the medical report and the FIR.”
Describing this situation as extremely worrying, the court directed the District Magistrate of Meerut to ensure non -approval of the letter sent by the Union Home Ministry within a week.
The court said, “The acid attack took place in 2013 and the petitioner was given some compensation. However, it is clear from the records that the cost of surgery and medical aid is much higher than compensation. Therefore, it is necessary to direct the officers to ensure that additional compensation is made available to the petitioner as soon as possible. ”
During the road construction dispute in December 2013, his eyes, chest, throat and face were badly burnt in an acid attack on the petitioner. The petitioner claimed that she kept circling the offices to get additional compensation, but did not get compensation.
