JPC Waqf Bill Meeting: JPC reviewing the Waqf Bill will meet today. Mirwaiz Umar Farooq of Jammu and Kashmir has been called to present his side in the meeting. Earlier, a series of discussions were to be held regarding the draft of the report in today’s meeting, but the agenda of the meeting was changed late on Thursday evening.

In today’s meeting, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq along with a delegation will present his side regarding the Waqf Bill in front of the JPC. According to sources, Umar Farooq had requested to present his side before the JPC.

An attempt has also been made to give a political message by giving Omar Farooq an opportunity to present his side. The JPC, headed by BJP MP Jagdambika Pal, has tried to hold broad discussions with different sections of the society. In such a situation, by calling separatist leader Omar Farooq, the message is also being given that the committee is ready to listen to every side and only after that the committee will prepare its report. However, Umar Farooq has already been protesting against the provisions of the Waqf Bill.

Till now, 34 JPC meetings have been held, in which about 107 hours of discussion took place. From January 27, the committee will start sequential discussion on the draft of its report regarding the bill. It is believed that JPC will present its report in Parliament in the first week of February itself.

This meeting will start at 11 am. The meeting will be held on both 24th and 25th January. Opposition members of JPC had demanded to postpone the meeting to January 30 and 31. However, the central government rejected it. Today’s meeting is expected to be rowdy. So far 13 members have given notice of amendment. After receiving the draft of the report, the opposition MPs will decide to give a note of dissent.
