"9,999…this shows the importance of 1 run, hurts me"Steve Smith became only the fourth batsman in history

New Delhi:
Recently, in the last and fifth Test played against India in Sydney, former Kangaroo captain Steve Smith had a big opportunity in front of his home audience. And this was the opportunity to become the 15th player in the history of Australian cricket to score ten thousand runs. But the famous Krishna shattered his dream. Steve Smith was caught by Yashasvi Jaiswal in the gully on the ball of Indian pacer. And the Kangaroo batsmen remained stuck at 9,999. Meaning, the dream of scoring ten thousand runs in front of the spectators of his city was lost, which Steve Smith will regret for the rest of his life.

Smith said, “Just one run. It hurt a bit at the time. Obviously it would have been nice to achieve this feat on home ground in front of my family and friends. I would have achieved it in the first Test against Sri Lanka in Galle.” I can.”

Let us tell you that with this figure, Steve Smith became the fourth batsman in history to be out on a total of 9,999. Before him, Brian Lara, Mahela Jayawardene and Alastair Cook have achieved this unwanted record. Although Smith could have achieved this feat much earlier, but in his desire to become an opener after Warner, he put this feat aside. As an opener, Steve Smith could only average 28.5 in 8 innings.

This climax is undeniable

However, no other batsman in Test history could score such runs as Smith did in his prime. After playing at number 6-9 in ten innings in the beginning of his career, Smith returned to the middle order. This was the year 2013 against India. Then in Mohali he scored 92 runs in 185 balls at number five. Steve had settled in a few innings, but it was the year 2014, where Smith started dominating world cricket. In the 32nd innings of his career against England, Smith scored 115 runs against England in Sydney in 2014. And after 100 consecutive innings, Smith had scored 6,257 runs at an average of 71.92. And in this peak period which lasted till January 2020, Smith scored 24 centuries and this peak in itself is undisputed in Test history.
