In this, 72 other people have also been accused. The police have registered a case against the other people, including Hasina’s party Awami League leaders and activists. What to say about police officers
A police official said, “Yes, our Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has registered a case in the court of the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate of Dhaka on charges of conspiring to demolish the current government.” The court asked the CID to start the investigation of the case on Thursday.
The CID registered this case after getting information about an online meeting held on December 19, 2024. Those participating in this meeting created a platform called ‘Joy Bangla Brigade’. During this time, through civil war, he discussed plans to bring Hasina back to power.
On what basis the police have filed the case
The government-run news agency ‘BSS’ cited the case, saying, “Former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and the recording of conversation between the hosts, co-masters and other leaders and activists participating in the meeting have revealed that these people had pledged that they would not allow the legitimate government to run the country in a peaceful manner.”
Police said that a total of 577 people from India and abroad attended this meeting. Police said that these people supported Hasina’s instructions in a meeting convened by Rabbi Alam, vice president of the American branch of Awami League. Alam was nominated as the second accused in the case registered under the Penal Code.
The coup of Sheikh Hasina’s government
The 16-year-old Awami League government, led by Hasina, fell due to violent public rebellion under the leadership of students on August 5 last year, after which 77-year-old Hasina had secretly left Bangladesh and moved to India. Since his withdrawal from his post, more than 100 cases have been registered on him, including mass murder and corruption. After he was overshadowed, Younus took charge as the Chief Advisor of the Interim Government.
