A US state has dragged its own federal government i.e. President Donald Trump’s government in court, has filed a case on it.The Governor and Attorney General of California said on Wednesday, 16 April that he has sued the federal government for repeated tariffs and then removal of Donald Trump. He claimed that the US President does not have the right to implement the tariff policy.
This step inside the US is the strongest response against the implementation of tariffs so far. Trump’s tariff policy has not only put the global stock markets in recession, but has also brought business in the whole of America to the vortex of uncertainty.
How to face California Trump’s tariff?
California is home to 4 crore people and a big economy that trade in large quantities abroad. This state holds 14 percent share in American GDP i.e. GDP. Had it been an independent country, it would have been the fifth largest economy in the world. But California is ready to bear the brunt of economic damage due to Trump’s tariff policy.
The office of Governor Gavin Nyusom says that if California’s international trade shrinks due to Trump’s tariff policy, then he can lose billions of dollars in revenue.
Trump has long given importance to tariffs as an economic tool. He claims that by putting tariffs, he will re -balance America’s business relations, bring America out of trade deficit. On April 2, he termed the reciperook tariff on all countries, calling it a Liberation Day for the US. After this, he also gave relief of 90 days to all countries except China (now trade war between the two). Since then, many of them have been banned, but Trump’s chaotic announcement put the global stock markets in crisis, which cleared trillions of dollars.
It is believed that Governor Nusom wants to bring himself into the race for the presidential candidate in 2028.
California action
Trump used the US International Emergency Economic Power Act to implement the tariff policy. The legal action launched on Wednesday argued that this law does not give Trump the right to put tariffs on the goods coming in the US. State Attorney General Rob Bonta told the media, “We are demanding the court to rein in the President and to maintain the Constitution… The President is once again behaving as if he is above the law, but it is not so.”
Bonta said that the Congress has the power to impose tariffs, and in the case, there has been a demand to ensure that Trump’s works are withdrawn. The case is the latest of more than a dozen cases which California has filed against the Trump administration.
At the same time, the White House spokesperson dismissed the allegations. The spokesperson said, “Instead of focusing on California’s large -scale crime, homeless and increasing spending, Gavin Nosom is spending his time to prevent President Trump’s historical efforts to address the national emergency of our country’s frequent trade deficit.”
