Police in Maharashtra’s Beed district on Sunday registered an FIR against Maratha reservation activist Manoj Jarange for making derogatory remarks against minister Dhananjay Munde and creating discord between two sections of the society. An officer gave this information. He told that on the complaint of a person named Tukaram Aghav, an FIR was registered against Jarange in Parli police station.
During a rally in Parbhani on Saturday, Jarange had targeted Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Munde over the murder of Sarpanch Santosh Deshmukh of Beed’s Masajog village. He had said that if Deshmukh’s family was harmed, the Maratha community would not allow Munde to walk on the streets.
Munde’s supporters were angered by Jarange’s remarks. They protested outside Shivajinagar police station in Beed and demanded registration of a case against Jarange. Deshmukh was killed on December 9 as he tried to stop an extortion attempt from an energy company operating a wind farm project in Beed.
Munde’s aide Valmik Karad has been arrested in an extortion case related to Deshmukh’s murder.
