Delhi Metro again stolen cable, red line service disrupted more than 6 hours

The Delhi Metro once again fell victim to the theft of signaling cable, due to which the service was affected on the red line, although the DMRC corrected the situation after being affected for more than 6 hours and since then the prevalence of the metro has continued. DMRC, a senior official, said that at around 6:00 am, there was talk of signaling cable theft, after which the metro service was affected on the red line, but after 6 hours of hard work, the metro service on the red line was started again at 12:21 pm. At the same time, DMRC has also lodged an FIR in a police regarding this entire incident. Why was the metro service affected on the red line?

In fact, another incident of signaling cable theft between Seilampur and Welcome Metro stations came to light on Thursday (March 13). Due to this incident, trains from Mansarovar Park to Seilampur metro station were run at a speed of 25 km/h. This delayed the journey of passengers on the entire red line. After the matter came to light, Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) gave a post on X and gave information about this.

Cases of signaling cable theft increased in Delhi Metro

However, this is not the first case when a case of signaling cable theft has come up in this way. Since June 2024, there have been 89 cases from various corridors of the metro network, including incidents of cable theft. Among these thieves, 35 cases traction cables, 32 cases signaling cables and 22 cases of electrical cable are theft. DMRC took several steps to stop cable theft. DMRC has taken several measures to prevent cable theft incidents. As-

  1. Cement on cables in prone areas of theft
  2. Stolen prevention clamp installing
  3. Drone and CCTV monitoring options explore
  4. Concertina coil installing
  5. Installing the cover on the cable tray.

According to the information, metro services run with the support of hundreds of kilometers of cables running in the airplane/tunnel for signaling, traction, telecommunications, electrical systems etc. Damage to cables causes unnecessary delays in metro services, as the revenue service is very challenging and risky during hours.
