Former Managing Director and CEO of Reliance Brands Limited (RBL) Darshan Mehta died of a heart attack on Wednesday. He was 64 years old. Darshan Mehta was the identity of Reliance’s luxury and lifestyle retail. He played an important role in bringing many global fashion brands to India.
MD was from November 2023, then played the role of mentor
Darshan Mehta was MD of RBL till November 2023. After that he came in the role of Consultant as a non-executive director. He started RBL in 2007 and included the company in India’s top fashion retail players.
Legendary to bring the world’s luxury brands to India
In Mehta’s leadership, Reliance Brands put many international brands in India like Valentino, Balencia, Tiffany & Co, Giorgio Armani, Bottega Veneta, Jimmy Choo, Burberry, and Pottery Barn. Apart from this, he also partnered at global level with Indian designers like Manish Malhotra, Abu Jani-Sandeep Khosla and Rahul Mishra.
Contribution also contributed to starting Jio World Plaza in Mumbai
Darshan Mehta also launched two mega retail centers of Reliance Group Jio World Drive and Jio World Plaza – which are counted in India’s luxury shopping destinations today.
Bought a global company like Hamleys
In his leadership, Reliance also bought Britain’s famous toy company Hamleys in 2019. This deal was considered to be very big in the retail sector of India. Darshan Mehta was not only a corporate leader, but also fond of fitness.
