Government should decide on expensive air tickets of Haj pilgrimage in 7 days: Supreme Court


The Supreme Court on Thursday heard a petition questioning the cost of expensive air tickets of Haj pilgrimage. In this hearing, the Supreme Court has asked the Central Government to take a decision in a week. The Supreme Court has given this order after a statement given by the Central Government. In the statement given by the government, it has been said that investigation will be done on the basis of question raised about the fare of the airplane. The reasons for the decision of the government will be uploaded on the website. So that it can be shown why the Haj pilgrim from Calicut to Jeddah is more expensive than the journey from other places in Kerala?

On Thursday, a bench of Supreme Court Justice Suryakant and Justice N. Kotishwar Singh said that according to the petitioners, one lakh rupees is being charged instead of 85-86 thousand rupees. This act is arbitrary on this basis.

However, the court also said that there is no dispute that the fare is decided by the Ministry of Minority Affairs. In such a situation, it is not appropriate to express any opinion by the court in policy subjects. If the petition is rejected by the court, it will be unfavorable for Haj pilgrims and they will have to face difficulty.

Calicut in Kerala to Jeddah flight fare

It goes on to say that a fare of one lakh rupees is charged from Haj pilgrims for the flight to reach Jeddah after leaving from Calicut. Whereas the price of flight going to Jeddah in other places of Kerala is less than this. In this case, a PIL was filed in the Supreme Court. While hearing this, the Supreme Court has asked to take a decision in a week.
