The Israeli cabinet meeting lasted for more than six hours. Netanyahu’s office said in a statement that the government approved the agreement early Saturday.

Fundamentalists strongly opposed the agreement

However, some fundamentalist leaders strongly opposed this agreement. Media reports said 24 ministers of Netanyahu’s coalition government voted in favor of the deal, while eight opposed it.

This six-week ceasefire will start from Sunday. During this, prisoners will be exchanged in exchange for hostages. It is believed that this can open the way to end the 15-month-long war in Gaza. The Israeli Justice Ministry has published a list of 95 Palestinians to be freed. Awaiting government permission on this. These include 69 women, 16 men and 10 minors.

Israeli attacks continue in Gaza

The Israeli prison service said it would prevent any “public displays of joy” over the release of Palestinian prisoners.

On the other hand, despite the announcement of the ceasefire agreement, Israeli attacks are not stopping. After the announcement of the agreement, dozens of people have been killed in Israeli attacks on Gaza. The army said on Thursday that it had hit about 50 targets in Gaza in the last 24 hours.

The Israeli Security Cabinet on Friday approved the hostage-release-cease-fire agreement with Hamas and recommended the government to adopt it.

Thousands of people have lost their lives during the conflict

Israeli and Hamas negotiators signed the deal in Doha early Friday after overcoming final hurdles. Both the US and Qatar, which brokered the talks, announced on Wednesday that an agreement had been reached to end the 15-month war. More than 1,200 civilians were killed and more than 250 were taken hostage in Hamas’s attack on October 7, 2023. Of which about 100 are still in captivity.

In retaliation, Israel launched a major attack targeting Hamas positions in the Gaza Strip. However, after this reaction of Israel, many humanitarian groups have also criticized the death of a large number of civilians. According to the Gaza Health Ministry, more than 45,000 people have been killed in Gaza, half of whom are women and children.
