Karnataka:
Candidates who are going to take the exam will no longer need to take off religious symbols like Mangalsutra and Janeu. This decision has been taken by railway officials after widespread protest. The Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and other Hindu organizations on Monday expressed strong objections to the candidates appearing for the Railway Recruitment Board’s Nursing Superintendent Examination on Monday on the instructions to take off the Mangalasutra and Janeu and enter the examination building.
Honor of religious sentiments
In the midst of increasing resentment about this, Minister of State for Railways V Somanna intervened in the case and clarified that the candidates appearing in the Railway Recruitment Board’s Nursing Board’s Nursing Board will not require any religious symbol or mangalsutra. He directed the officials to ensure that religious sentiments be respected during the examination process. This exam will be held on Tuesday (April 29) at Manail Srinivas Nayak Besant Vidya Kendra in Bondel, Mangaluru.
Attack on Hindu traditions of crores of people
Vishwa Hindu Parishad regional leader Sharan Pumpwell said, “We are monitoring the developments, if any of these steps (Mangalasutra and Janeu of the candidates) are taken by the examination authorities, we will improve it.” Hindu organizations argued that this had hurt the religious sentiments of Hindus deeply. At the same time, the VHP spokesperson said, “It is like attacking married women to remove mangalsutra and vermilion or to remove janeu to men.
There will be no compromise on religious identity
The VHP submitted a memorandum to the district officials demanding permission to appear in the examination without compromising their religious identity. The dispute has come to light in view of the recent incidents during the General Entrance Examination (CET), where some candidates at some examination centers were allegedly asked to remove these things.
DK Shivkumar lashed out at BJP
Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivkumar targeted the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), reacting to the questions asked by reporters in Bengaluru on the issue. He said that let them investigate religious things like Mangalsutra, Janeu, but it is not right to ask them to take off. BJP’s real face is different. They say something and do something else. This decision should be withdrawn and people should express their anger against it.
