Pakistan again IED attack on police bus in Balochistan, 3 officers died in blast- 16 injured

Raja Muhammad Akram, an official of the Balochistan administration, said that about 40 police officers were riding in Mastung district, about 40 km south of the provincial capital Quetta, in Mastung district.

Raja Muhammad Akram said, “This was a roadside IED (improvised explosive device) explosion, killing three policemen, while 16 others were injured.”

Significantly, Pakistan has been struggling with separatist rebellion in Balochistan for decades. Rebel militants target police-Army, foreign nationals and citizens of other areas of Pakistan in this mineral rich province bordering Afghanistan and Iran.

Provincial government spokesperson Shahid Rind also confirmed the number of deceased policemen and said that the condition of two officers is critical. Till the news was written, no group had taken responsibility for the attack. However, the needle of suspicion is going towards the Baloch Liberation Army (BLA), which is the most active group in the region and often keeps making deadly attacks against security forces.

Last month, ethnic Baloch separatists hijacked a train with 450 passengers inside Balochistan. The army and police had to run an operation for two days and dozens of people were killed during this period.

According to AFP’s Tally, Armed Groups fighting the government in both Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan have killed more than 200 in attacks since the beginning of this year, mostly security officers. After the Taliban came to power in Afghanistan in 2021, the last year was the most violent year in a decade after the trend of growing extremism, due to extremism, there were most in the last decade.
