Placard written ‘I am a big thief’ hung, garlanded with slippers and beaten severely on the charge of theft

In Muzaffarpur, Bihar, a chaff trader beat up a Dalit man on the charge of theft. At Khadi Bhandar Chowk, a placard written ‘I am a very big thief’ was hung around the neck of the accused and he was garlanded with slippers and taken around the area. During this time a large crowd gathered at the spot. However, no one bothered to save the accused youth. During this time someone made a video of the young man and posted it on social media. Now the video is viral and this matter is being discussed everywhere.

At a distance of 500 meters from Mithanpura police station, the accused Dalit youth was paraded with a placard and garland of slippers and the police had no clue about it. The accused used to work at a chaff trader. He used to load chaff in a truck from Siwan and deliver it to Hajipur and Sarai. Recently, he fled to Delhi with Rs 50,000 from the sale of straw in Hajipur and Rs 5,000 from a worker. The straw trader traced him and caught him in Delhi. Then he was brought to Muzaffarpur. The straw trader did not hand over the accused to the police but decided to beat him up himself.

Young man caught from Delhi

Straw trader Santosh Gupta told that the accused used to load the straw in a truck and take it away. He also used to bring money after the sale. He took the truck thrice and brought back the money. On the fourth occasion, he promised to bring breakfast and ran away with the money. He called someone and told that I have come to Delhi. Then he was arrested and brought from Delhi.

Video of the incident went viral

After receiving the information, the police of Mithanpura police station reached the spot. By that time the accused had been released by the straw trader. Police Station Head Ram Iqbal Prasad said that the young man who ran away with the money was beaten up. A video has surfaced of him swinging a slipper around his neck. By the time the police reached the spot, the accused was released. He said that the matter will be investigated.
