Tehran:
Two judges were killed in a shooting at the Supreme Court in Tehran on Saturday. Iranian government media gave this information. Judiciary’s Meezan Online website reported, “This morning a gunman infiltrated the Supreme Court with a plan to assassinate two brave and experienced judges. In this act, both the judges were martyred.”
Mizan said the attacker “killed himself” after carrying out a “terrorist” incident. State news agency IRNA said another person was injured. Mizan identified the two slain judges as Ali Razini and Mohammad Moghiseh, both handling cases related to “national security, espionage and combating crimes against terrorism.”
Judiciary spokesman Asghar Jahangir said on state television that “a man entered the room of two judges with a gun” and shot them. “Individuals have been identified, summoned or arrested in connection with the incident,” he said, without giving any further details.
The motive behind his murder is not clear, but Mizan said without giving further details about the identity of the attacker that the attacker was not involved in any case pending in the Supreme Court. He said that further investigation is being done in this matter.
President Massoud Pezeshkian expressed his condolences over the deaths and called on authorities to take immediate action. He said, ‘I urge the security and law enforcement forces to take necessary steps as soon as possible by investigating the dimensions and angles of this condemnable act and identifying its perpetrators.’
