Who Is Umar Nazir Mir: Who is Umar Nazir Mir… 6 feet 4 inches tall bowler made Mumbai lions suffer, made Rohit also a victim

Rohit Sharma, who was seen in the domestic circuit after strict orders of BCCI, was expected to play a big innings. Rohit Sharma looked in good touch in practice for the match against Jammu and Kashmir. But the condition of Rohit Sharma, who was struggling with his form for a long time, did not change here either and he returned to the pavilion after scoring only 3 runs.

Jammu and Kashmir are comparatively more inexperienced in front of Mumbai, but Rohit still could not do wonders and got bowled by Umar Nazir Mir. Apart from this, Jaiswal could also score only 4 runs, while Hardik Tamore and Ajinkya Rahane could not show anything special. Hardik Tamore was successful in scoring 7 runs while Rahane was out after scoring 12 runs.

Leaving Jaiswal aside, Rohit, Hardik and Rahane all became victims of Umar Nazir Mir. Umar Nazir Mir took 4 wickets during Mumbai’s first innings, due to which Mumbai got bundled out for just 120 runs in the first innings.

‘Lions’ of Mumbai collapsed

When Mumbai won the toss and decided to bat first at Sharad Pawar Academy on Thursday, no one expected that star-studded Mumbai would be all out for just 120. Mumbai’s playing eleven had players like Jaiswal, Rohit, Rahane, Iyer, Shivam Dubey and Shardul Thakur and yet the team was out in 33.2 overs.

Yudhveer Singh and Umar Nazir played an important role in Mumbai’s all-out, whose havoc-wreaking balls had no answer for the Mumbai lions. Umar Nazir bowled 11 overs in which 2 overs were maidens. During this, he took 4 wickets giving 41 runs, while Yudhveer Singh took 4 wickets giving 31 runs in 8.2 overs. Auqib Nabi also got two successes. Let us tell you, the batsman who scored the most runs for Mumbai was Shardul Thakur, who played an inning of 51 runs. If we exclude Shardul’s innings, Mumbai would not have been able to cross even the 100 mark.

Rohit Sharma’s bad form continues

Jammu and Kashmir’s Umar Nazir Mir troubled Rohit with consistent delivery of maidens with disciplined lines and subtle movements. Rohit could score only one run from the on side and two runs from the drive, but was out on the 17th ball of Mir. A length delivery with a little movement outside the off stump touched the leading edge and Paras Dogra completed the catch straight to extra cover.

With this dismissal, Rohit’s bad phase in red-ball cricket continued. He scored at an average of 10.93 with only one half-century in 15 innings in the 2024-25 Test season. His first-class average of 10.43 in 16 innings this season is the second lowest for batsmen with at least 15 innings in the top six since 2006.

Mumbai made adjustments to accommodate Rohit and Jaiswal, leaving out debut season star Ayush Mhatre, who has scored 408 runs at an average of 45.33. Jammu and Kashmir’s disciplined bowling took full advantage of the conditions on a cold Mumbai morning, with Mumbai’s openers struggling to make an impact.

Who is Omar Nazir Mir?

Umar Nazir Mir made his debut against Assam in 2013 and since then he has taken 138 wickets in 57 matches. He has 54 wickets in his name in List A cricket while this fast bowler has taken 32 wickets in T20. Mir, who hails from Pulwama and is 6 feet 4 inches tall, was also named in the India C squad for the 2018-19 Deodhar Trophy. Umar has also achieved the feat of taking five wickets six times in red ball cricket. The right-arm fast bowler has represented his state in all three formats.

Omar Nazir Mir gets the advantage of his height. 6 feet 4 inches tall Umar’s ball bounces after falling. If reports are to be believed, this bowler has also improved himself by participating in the camps organized by former Indian fast bowler Irfan Pathan.

According to the report of Indian Express, when Article 370 was abolished from Jammu and Kashmir in 2019, Umar Nazir Mir was not able to go to his home in Pulwama. After the abrogation of Article 370, there was internet shutdown and various restrictions in many areas of Jammu and Kashmir, but the tall fast bowler kept himself busy preparing for the domestic season during that time. He took a conditioning course at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru. Started with the session and then moved to Baroda, where Irfan Pathan organized a pre-season camp for the Jammu and Kashmir cricket team.

If reports are to be believed, Umar considers great fast bowler Glenn McGrath as his idol. Umar Nazir Mir has not been able to get any contract from any franchise in IPL yet. But he has worked as a net bowler for Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals.
