West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee will honor 95 fishermen from the state who were recently released from jail in neighboring Bangladesh. An officer gave this information. The official said that there is a strong possibility that the Chief Minister will also give some compensation to the fishermen during the felicitation ceremony. He said that these fishermen were arrested between October and November on charges of intruding into the territorial waters of Bangladesh.
An official told PTI, “The Chief Minister will honor the fishermen released by the Bangladesh government. Most of them are from Kakdweep while some are residents of Namkhana in the district.
The district administration has already made all the preparations and a stage has been prepared near the helipad at Sagar Island.
He said that 95 fishermen were brought to Sagar Island on Sunday evening.
