PM Modi’s Jeddah Yatra: India, Saudi Arabia expected signing 6 agreements, Haj quota will also be discussed

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has left for a historic two -day official visit to Saudi Arabia today. The tour is taking place at the invitation of Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman. This will be the third visit to Prime Minister Modi’s Gulf to the country, before that he has gone to Riyadh in 2016 and 2019. The tour reflects the depth strategic relations between India and Saudi Arabia, especially in important areas such as energy cooperation, trade, investment and regional security. The yatra is taking place after Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman’s visit to India and the first meeting of the India-Saudi Strategic Partnership Council during the G20 summit in New Delhi in September 2023.

Haj quota will be discussed

At least six MoUs (MoUs) are expected to be signed between India and Saudi Arabia on Tuesday. Highly placed sources told ‘PTI-Bhasha’ that PM Modi will also discuss issues related to Haj pilgrims including Kota for Indian Haj pilgrims during his meeting with Saudi Arabia’s ‘Crown Prince’ and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman Al Saud in the evening.

Indian Ambassador to Saudi Arabia Suhail Ejaz Khan told ‘PTI-Bhasha’ ahead of the Prime Minister’s visit, “Jeddah is a very important city in terms of contact between India and Saudi Arabia. Because for centuries, Jeddah has been a port for trade between the two countries and it is also the entrance to Mecca. Therefore, whoever comes for Umrah and Haj, he descends into Jeddah and then goes to Mecca. ”

The ambassador said, “Haj is a very important religious pilgrimage and the Government of India gives great importance to it. The Ministry of Minority Affairs is arranging for this … various issues were discussed in bilateral talks. There has always been a very good coordination between the Saudi government and India regarding Haj. ”

For the year 2025, India’s Haj quota has increased from 136,020 to 175,025 in 2014, with 122,518 pilgrims’ arrangements have been finalized. However, about 42,000 Indians are unlikely to be done this year due to delay by joint Haj group operators in contract agreements.

Modi and ‘Crown Prince’ will co-Operates the second meeting of the Strategic Partnership Council established during the Prime Minister’s 2019 visit to strengthen bilateral relations. On Wednesday, the Prime Minister will also visit a factory providing employment to Indian workers. Prime Minister Modi was awarded Saudi Arabia’s highest civilian honor in 2016.
