Mithun’s name was famous in Hindi cinema in the 1970s and 80s. The youth were crazy about his dance and style at that time. Mithun Chakraborty received the National Award for his very first film. Mithun Chakraborty won the National Award for the film Mrigaya and after that he gave many hit films one after the other. In that period, producers and directors used to queue up to work with him. Mithun Chakraborty worked with many big heroines of that era including Sridevi, Jaya Prada, Padmini Kolhapure.
During that time, on one hand, Mithun Chakraborty was in the headlines for his film career, while on the other hand, stories about his love affairs were also heard a lot. It is said that he was in a relationship with the superstar of that era, Sridevi. His name was also associated with actress Sarika. They were in a relationship for a few years and then they broke up.
Shortly after the breakup with Sarika, Mithun married the very beautiful actress of that time, Helena Luke. 21 year old Helena was a model, actress and dancer. In an interview given to Stardust magazine, Helena had said about her marriage, Mithun used to convince her for marriage from 6 in the morning till she went to sleep at night. Then we both got married secretly in 1979. However this marriage did not last long. The biggest reason for the breakup of their marriage was that Mithun had started growing closer to Yogita Bali. Yogita and Mithun were working together in the film Khwaab. At that time Yogita was the wife of the big singer of that era, Kishore Kumar.
In an interview, Helena had said, this four-month marriage was no less than a nightmare for me. I wish this marriage had not happened. He brainwashed me and made me believe that he was made for me. Unfortunately he succeeded in his plan. Within a few days, fights started between the two. Mithun was also not completely established in Bollywood at that time. Both of them got divorced within four months.
Helena had said in the interview that no matter how big a star he becomes, she will not change her decision. This marriage proved to be a nightmare for me. What I hate more about Mithun is that he uses women as publicity stunts. Let’s talk about them. As far as I am concerned, I am talking about that person for the last time.
Helena had said, ‘I did not gain anything from this marriage. I used to wait for Mithun for hours alone at home. I found that Mithun loved only himself and no one else. I was much younger than him, but it seemed as if I was older than him. He was a very immature and suspicious person. I tried to convince him a lot but failed. He thought that I was meeting my ex Javed Khan, because he himself was having an affair with Yogita Bali.
After divorce from Mithun, Helena tried her luck in films. He started his acting career with the 1980 film Judaai. Later she was seen in the film Mard with Amitabh Bachchan. Apart from this, she also appeared in films like Do Gulab, Ek Naya Rishta, Saath Saath and Aao Pyar Karein. Later, when the films did not do well, Helen said goodbye to Bollywood and shifted to America. In America, she started working as a flight attendant in Delta Airlines. 68 year old Helen was ill for a long time and she died on Sunday, November 3, 2024.
