GUWAHATI: As many as 27 Bangladesh nationals have been apprehended by Assam Police from two locations — Guwahati and Rangiya – on September 16, Wednesday, a senior police official told the media. They include men, women, and minors.

The Bangladesh nationals entered India via Meghalaya, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Border), Kulendra Nath Deka, said.
According to Deka, a piece of information was received that certain illegal migrants sneaked into India and were loitering at the ASTC Campus in the Paltan Bazar area in Guwahati.
“On the basis of that input and on the directions given by senior officers, we conducted an operation at the ASTC campus and have been able to apprehend 12 persons,” Deka said.
During the interrogation of the apprehended 12 persons, those individuals shared information that another group of 15 people were travelling via Jammu Tawi Express train.
Accordingly, Deka said that they shared the information to the GRP as well as RPF.
“They successfully intercepted them after crossing Rangiya railway junction. They were deboarded at Bongaigaon Railway Station and later handed over to us,” Deka said.
All these apprehended individuals, 27 in total, did not have any documents in their possession.
They are from various districts of Bangladesh, including Dhaka, Sunamganj, Gopalganj, Bagherhat, Khulna, and Mymensingh.
Police are also investigating whether there was any broker involved in the facilitation of their illegal migration into India.
Asked about the next course of action, Deka said that the Border Police has placed a request before the Deputy Commissioner, and an expulsion order is expected.
“On the basis of that (order), we will send them back (to Bangladesh),” the official said, in a way indicating that the 27 Bangladeshi nationals will be pushed back.
Most of the 27 individuals are job seekers, police interrogation revealed.
“They entered India or sneaked into India in search of jobs mainly. Criminal cases will be registered, and further investigation will continue,” Deka said.
