GUWAHATI: The Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) on Monday, July 20, requested local authorities in Guwahati to allow employees to work from home, wherever feasible, in view of the heavy rainfall forecast issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

ASDMA also urged residents to take all necessary precautions and remain vigilant as further rainfall is expected across the city.
According to ASDMA, the prevailing meteorological conditions and the ongoing monsoon situation in the state indicate that Guwahati may receive moderate to heavy rainfall (6–12 cm in 24 hours).
The expected rainfall could worsen waterlogging, urban flooding, flash floods, traffic congestion, and increase the risk of localised landslides in vulnerable areas.
The daily commuters and long-distance travellers are requested to plan their journeys accordingly and avoid unnecessary travel during periods of intense rainfall.
“Residents in low-lying and hillside areas should stay alert for any signs of flooding or landslides,” ASDMA said in a statement.
