GUWAHATI: Assam is home to nearly 80% of the world’s one-horned rhinoceros population, highlighting the state’s important role in global wildlife conservation.

According to the information shared by Minister of Environment & Forest Jayanta Mallabaruah, Assam has around 3,260 one-horned rhinos, while the global population is estimated at around 4,075.
Kaziranga National Park remains at the heart of rhino conservation efforts in Assam and provides a major secure habitat for the species. Manas National Park also contributes to conservation by providing protected habitat for the one-horned rhinoceros.
The graphic highlights wildlife protection, secure habitats, scientific management, community partnerships and global conservation as key areas supporting rhino conservation in the state.
With Assam accounting for a major share of the global one-horned rhino population, continued protection of habitats and conservation efforts remain important for the long-term survival of the species.
