The State Election Commission has been advised to conduct elections to both councils within November.
In another decision, the Cabinet approved the notification of the Assam Mineral Regulation and Dealers (Amendment) Rules, 2026, amending the existing Assam Mineral Regulation and Dealers (Amendment) Rules, 2020.
The amendment introduces a grading system for extracted limestone, classifying it into high, medium and base cement grades across Categories 1, 2 and 3.
Under the revised system, royalty collection will be linked to the quality of limestone extracted, replacing the existing approach of applying a single flat rate. The move is intended to ensure that the government collects royalties proportionate to the quality of the mineral.
