GUWAHATI: Several feral horses from Dibru-Saikhowa National Park were seen roaming through parts of Dibrugarh town on Monday, July 20, after floodwaters submerged their natural habitat and grazing grounds.

The Forest Department launched a rescue operation after receiving reports of the animals moving through the town, safely relocating them to prevent any untoward incidents.
Sharing the update on X, Assam Forest Minister Jayanta Mallabaruah said, "Acting promptly on reports of feral horses roaming through Dibrugarh town, our Forest Department safely rescued them to prevent any mishap."
According to the minister, no owner of the rescued horses has been identified so far.
To ensure their long-term safety and well-being, the horses have been shifted to Sisu Chapori, where they now have access to sufficient grazing land, adequate fodder and a secure natural habitat.
The incident comes amid the ongoing flood situation in Assam, which has inundated large parts of Dibru-Saikhowa National Park, forcing wildlife to move out of their natural habitats in search of safer ground and food.
