GUWAHATI: In a significant boost to Guwahati’s urban infrastructure and traffic management, the much-awaited Cycle Factory–Lal Ganesh flyover is set to be inaugurated this evening. The flyover, constructed to ease congestion along one of the city’s busiest traffic corridors, is expected to provide major relief to commuters travelling through the Lal Ganesh, Lokhra and Cycle Factory areas.

Officials said preparations for the inauguration ceremony were completed on Friday, with decorative lighting and security arrangements put in place around the project site. Senior state government officials, local representatives and engineers associated with the project are expected to attend the event. The flyover is likely to be formally opened for vehicular movement soon after the inauguration ceremony.
The new flyover has been constructed at a crucial junction that witnesses heavy traffic movement throughout the day, especially during office hours. The stretch connects several important residential and commercial localities and serves as a key route for vehicles heading towards National Highway corridors, Lokhra, Basistha and central parts of Guwahati. Frequent traffic snarls in the area had long been a major concern for commuters and transporters.
Residents and daily commuters expressed optimism ahead of the opening, hoping that the flyover would significantly reduce travel time and improve traffic flow. Many locals said the project had been eagerly awaited for years as the increasing number of vehicles had made the corridor heavily congested. Shopkeepers and business owners in the area also believe smoother traffic movement could improve connectivity and commercial activity.
The inauguration of the Syama Prasad Mookherjee flyover comes amid the Assam government’s continued focus on expanding urban infrastructure in Guwahati. Over the past few years, multiple flyovers, road expansion projects and drainage works have been taken up in an effort to address the city’s growing transportation challenges.
Authorities have urged commuters to follow traffic advisories during the inauguration period, as temporary diversions and movement restrictions may be imposed in parts of the area for security and crowd management. Further details regarding the timing of public vehicular access are expected after the official inauguration ceremony later in the evening.
