Durga Puja Pandal in Guwahati's Bamunimaidan To Turn Into "Disneyland" for 39 Years Of Celebration

GUWAHATI: A Durga Puja pandal at Guwahati’s Bamunimaidan will take visitors into a world of magic and wonder this year, with a “Disneyland” theme marking the 39th year of the celebrations. Built around the motto “Magic, Joy, Togetherness,” the pandal aims to offer devotees and families a festive experience that combines devotion with entertainment.

The pandal draws on the look of a storybook castle, with pink walls, blue spires, golden turrets, banners and an arched entrance. Organisers say the aim is to create a festive world where families, especially children, can experience the spirit of Durga Puja in a joyful setting. Maa Durga's idol will be placed within this setting, surrounded by floral decorations and traditional ornamentation.

In front of the pandal, the committee will set up small amusement attractions for children. Organisers say the idea is to make the puja a complete family outing, where young visitors have something to enjoy alongside the rituals and cultural festivities.

The committee has set an estimated budget of around ₹9 lakh for this year's celebrations, covering the pandal, idol, lighting, decorations and other arrangements. Preparations are in full swing, with artisans and volunteers working to finish the structure ahead of Maha Shashthi.

The five-day celebration will begin with Maha Shashthi on October 17, followed by Maha Saptami on October 18, Maha Ashtami on October 19 and Maha Navami on October 20. The puja will conclude with Bijoya Dashami on October 21.

Extending an invitation to the public, a committee spokesperson said, “With the blessings of Maa Durga, we cordially invite you and your family to be a part of our Durga Puja. Your presence will make our celebration more special.”

The puja will be held at New Guwahati Bamunimaidan BG Railway Colony. Now in its 39th year, the annual celebration organised by the Sarbajanin Shree Shree Durga Puja Committee of New Guwahati Bamunimaidan BG Railway Colony continues to bring together local residents and families from across the neighbourhood.
