Speaking to GPlus, a shopkeeper in Zoo Road said that the cost of a tray of eggs has jumped from ₹170 to ₹200, reflecting a steep increase of ₹30 within a short period. Bulk prices have also moved upward, with a carton now priced at ₹1,200 compared to the earlier ₹1,150.
The hike is expected to affect both consumers and small businesses, particularly as eggs continue to serve as a staple and relatively affordable source of protein across many households.
Although no official explanation has been issued, it has been speculated that such fluctuations occur due to factors like supply constraints, higher transportation costs, and seasonal shifts in demand.
With prices climbing, consumers are now looking for stability in the days ahead.
