GUWAHATI: The Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) has issued an important public notice warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall over Nagaland between July 23 and July 24, cautioning that adjoining districts of Assam could also experience adverse weather conditions and flash flooding.

According to the advisory, a weather system stretching from the northeast Arabian Sea to Manipur across several parts of central and eastern India is creating conditions favourable for widespread rainfall. The system is currently shifting southwards.
ASDMA said another weather system, an upper air cyclonic circulation over central Assam and nearby areas, is further enhancing the chances of widespread rain across the region.
The authority has warned that isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely over Nagaland during the period, particularly in Wokha, Mokokchung, Mon and Longleng districts. Heavy rainfall is also expected over Kohima, Zunheboto and Tuensang.
Rainfall recorded over the last 24 hours in Nagaland includes 94 mm in Wokha, 89.2 mm in Mangkolemba, and 34 mm in Aboi.
Considering the forecast, ASDMA has cautioned that the adjoining Assam districts of Charaideo, Sivasagar, Jorhat and Golaghat may witness the impact of the prevailing weather conditions. Localised heavy rainfall could lead to a rise in river and stream water levels and trigger flash flooding in vulnerable and low-lying areas.
The authority has advised residents in the affected districts to remain alert, monitor official weather updates and take necessary precautions as the situation develops.
