Special Team Formed to Probe Himashri Boro’s Death; Post-Mortem Completed


 

GUWAHATI: A special team has been formed to record statements and examine all aspects of the death of Himashri Boro, the Assam student found dead in Srikakulam district after travelling on the Dibrugarh Vivek Express, police said.

Inspector General of Police G.V. Siva Prasad said that she was travelling on the Vivek Express from Visakhapatnam to Guwahati "when an unfortunate incident occurred, resulting in her death."

According to the IG, police received a report on the morning of 8 October and launched an investigation immediately. A post-mortem has been conducted. "A special team has been formed to record statements and examine all aspects of the case," he said.

The post-mortem findings and the cause of death have not been made public.

Himashri, a student of B. Borooah College, Guwahati, from Kamrup district, had travelled to Visakhapatnam with a dance troupe. Her family received a distressing message from her on 6 October, and her bag was later found in the train's S2 coach.

Her body was recovered from a forested area near Malayapuram in Srikakulam district, according to letters written by Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma to Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, in which he sought a thorough inquiry.

Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has said a complaint about passengers misbehaving with a woman on the train was lodged on 6 October, and that railway officials and state police are investigating in Andhra Pradesh.
