GUWAHATI: Assam's Education Minister Ranoj Pegu on Wednesday, September 16, announced the release of the post-matric scholarship for Scheduled Tribe (ST) students, benefiting 1.66 lakh students across the state.

Speaking to the media, Pegu said the total disbursal amounts to ₹194.55 crore, covering three financial years 2023-24, 2024-25 and 2025-26. Students have received the scholarship as a single consolidated package for all three years, with individual payouts ranging between ₹60,000 and ₹70,000 depending on eligibility.
The minister said the funds are intended for meaningful use by students, such as purchasing laptops or tablets to support their studies. He added that the money has been distributed through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) mode, ensuring the amount reaches beneficiaries directly and transparently.
Pegu thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma for facilitating the scholarship and enabling its smooth disbursal to ST students in the state.
The post-matric scholarship scheme for Scheduled Tribe students is a centrally sponsored programme aimed at supporting students pursuing education beyond the matriculation level, with the objective of reducing dropout rates and easing financial burdens on ST families.
