Dhubri Senior Superintendent of Police Debasish Borah said a police team launched the operation based on the intelligence received and apprehended the group upon their arrival.
During preliminary questioning, the detainees reportedly revealed that they had paid middlemen between Rs 15,000 and Rs 17,000 each to arrange their journey. They also allegedly identified a person named Milan as someone who had helped them cross into India.
Police said all 36 detainees were men, aged between approximately 30 and 50 years. According to the SSP, questioning all the individuals and establishing the circumstances of their entry into the country would take considerable time.
Following their detention, the group was taken to the Dhubri Police Reserve at Chawni, where senior police officials are questioning them and examining their documents to verify their identities and nationality.
Police are also investigating the alleged involvement of middlemen and tracing the route through which the group entered India. Further investigation is underway.
