GUWAHATI: As many as seven key intervention points along the National Highway stretch from Jalukbari to Jorabat were identified to address waterlogging and flooding in Guwahati at a meeting chaired by Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs Kaushik Rai on Tuesday, September 1, with specific mitigation measures proposed for the respective locations.

The meeting was convened with professors from IIT Guwahati and officials of NHAI, in the presence of senior officers from DoHUA, Kamrup Metropolitan District Administration and GMDA at his office at the Assam Secretariat.
Detailed discussions were held on the interventions required at various locations along the highway.
The minister reviewed the progress of mitigation measures being undertaken to address waterlogging and flooding along the National Highway in Guwahati.
During the meeting, a detailed presentation was made on the research work, measures undertaken so far and the proposed interventions to mitigate the problem.
Following the discussions, the responsibility for implementing the identified interventions was assigned to the concerned departments and agencies.
The Minister directed all concerned departments and agencies to work in close coordination, take prompt and time-bound action, and ensure completion of the identified measures within a stipulated timeframe.
It was further decided to hold a discussion with IIT Guwahati shortly to obtain the feasibility report on the proposed interventions.
The feasibility assessment will facilitate appropriate action and ensure that technically sound and effective measures are taken up at the identified locations.
The Minister also directed that a follow-up review meeting be convened after 15 days to assess the progress of the interventions and ensure timely implementation of the decisions taken.
Commissioner and Secretary, DoHUA, Kavita Padmanabhan; CEO, GMDA, Anbamuthan MP; District Commissioner, Kamrup Metro, Swapnil Paul; Special Director, T&CP, Jitendra Kr. Sarma Kakoti; Secretary, GMDA, Mridusmita Bora; Executive Engineer (I/C), GMDA, Seema Rabha, along with Professors of IIT Guwahati and senior officials NHAI were present at the meeting.
